Paralympic Academy Ability Contest
Neimanas and Humphreys 2004 Ability Contest Winners.
On behalf of U.S. Paralympics and the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago’s
Wirtz Sports Program, Illinois Paralympic Academy Partner, we would like
to officially congratulate Greta Neimanas (student) and Daniel Humphreys
(coach) for being selected as the winners of the 2004 Athens Paralympic
Academy Ability Contest.
Students ages 12-18 were asked to write a 100 word essay that answered
the question, “what does ability mean.” Coaches were judged
on their involvement in coaching athletic students with disabilities.
Entries was judged by four RIC Paralympians (1 vote each) and a group
of RIC Sports staff (1 combined vote). All of our judges were tremendously
impressed with the essays received from all the students and the coaching
experience of the coaching applicants.
Greta and Daniel and two companions will join the winners from several
other states for a trip to the 2004 Summer Paralympic Games in Athens,
Greece. The 2004 Paralympics are scheduled for September 17-28, 2004 and
will be held on the same venues as the 2004 Summer Olympic Games.
RIC wishes all the participants the best of luck in their future athletic
endeavors.
Again congratulations to Greta and Daniel!
